Copper is forgiving if you follow a few basics and unforgiving if you don't. Hand wash only — dishwasher detergents and heat are the fastest way to dull a finish permanently. Dry it fully after every wash; water left sitting is what causes uneven spotting.

The color will change. Bright copper darkens into a deeper, sometimes patchy brown-rose over weeks of regular use — this is oxidation, not damage, and it's part of what makes a well-used piece look different from a new one. If you want to reset it, half a lemon and a pinch of salt, rubbed gently and rinsed off, brings the shine back.

Avoid hot liquids, carbonated drinks, and highly acidic juices in copper drinkware — they react with the metal faster than water does, and not in a way that improves the taste.
